Globe Soup’s 2025 Paranormal Flash Fiction Challenge

It’s time for Globe Soup’s annual flash fiction challenge; this year, the theme was paranormal. Contestants received a ticket with a random paranormal entity and had to write a story from it. Unwilling to leave my fate to chance, I picked up the golden ticket to choose your entity, and I decided upon a banshee.

A banshee is a female spirit from folklore known for her eerie, mournful wail. Often described as a pale, ghostly woman in a tattered gown, she appears near homes or in the wild just before someone dies. The banshee doesn't cause death but rather warns of it. Some tales might depict her as a sorrowful guardian, while others paint her as a terrifying omen. Banshees are both feared and respected as an echo of grief and as a symbol for the inevitable crossing into the afterlife.

My story is a modern take on banshee mythology. I'll share more soon! Judging is set for the end of May.
